"We were delighted to discover Ruah Bed & Breakfast in our travels to bed and breakfast inns throughout the world. With so many gems available for travelers, it was a tough choice. However, we were enchanted with the distinct character, architecture, décor and ambiance of Ruah Bed & Breakfast".

New in 2008: Wi-Fi in all Rooms!

RUAH BED & BREAKFAST received six pages in the March 1996 issue of "House Beautiful" magazine and was also featured in the September 1996 issue of "Forbes FYI".

RUAH is located on the northern end of Lake George where the simple pleasures are paramount. It is owned and operated by Judy and Peter Foster. Peter is a landscape architect and the spectacular gardens reflect his passion and talent. Judy is a floral designer and her touch is evident throughout the elegant home.

The stately home was built by Harry Waltrous in 1900. Mr. Waltrous was a well-known turn-of-the-century artist. (It is reputed that Stanford White was the architect). Harry was a colorful character and his most famous prank was his Lake George Monster hoax in 1904, newsworthy enough for the New York Times. The "Monster" now resides in the Lake George museum.

Prior to the Foster's purchase, the home was frequented by many sports and show business personalities, including Jack Dempsey, Arthur Godfrey and Bing Crosby.

RUAH has large, bright common rooms with massive windows that bring "The Queen of the Lakes" and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains into every room. The living room is 50 x 30 with several sitting areas and magnificent fieldstone fireplace. Some of the original antiques and paintings still furnish the house. The marvelous antique grand piano sits in the living room waiting for guests to sit and play.

The grand 30' dining room features a coffer ceiling and large bay windows facing south and east. Breakfast can be enjoyed in either the dining room or on the veranda. (The dining room is suitable for small meetings or gatherings).

The opportunity to stay in one of Northern Lake George's "Great and Gracious" homes is now yours. The bedrooms are oversized and elegantly appointed. All have private baths, some have fireplaces and access to the 80' balcony that spans across the front of the house with breathtaking panoramic views of Lake George, The Waltonian Islands and the Adirondack Mountains.
